Happy Chinese New Year!!
Mio’s enthusiasm for bicycles started at a very young age with the formation of the Mio cycling club.
This collection of enthusiastic individuals enjoys cycling up and down Taiwan’s countryside in an effort to maintain their health. Now for those of you who don’t know, Taiwan is not a flat place. It is neither the Netherlands nor the plains of the Serengeti.
It has a mountain range running all the way down its middle and various rocky outcrops dotted all around, making it more like the Himalayas or the Alps.
It requires thighs of steel and more than one or two screws loose to cycle here.
However, this team enjoys their hobby and does a fantastic job of promoting Mio around the island. Some people apparently even cheer them on, just thankful that it’s not them.
Having established themselves as enthusiastic hobbyists, Mio realized that cycling was an environmentally friendly hobby that would encourage people to get out and explore. Mio decided to sponsor Mio Cross team,a team of highly skilled tandem riders, with a twist. The twist being the blind person on the back, because being on the front would be silly. This, somewhat unique, team have managed to successfully compete in such esteemed competitionsas the Paralympics and the Ali Shan race here in Taiwan, as well as numerous other global events. So if you see them around, don’t forget to cheer them on.
