Bob People’s first impression of Hong Kong is that it’s a mecca for shopping and beautiful food. But apart from the bustling business district with its shops, restaurants and entertainment, it also has a lot of places worth a visit in the suburbs and outlying islands.

So just where are the outskirts of Hong Kong? When most people talk about Hong Kong, they are referring to the imaginatively titled area known as Central. It’s the hub of the Territories and for many tourists it’s the only place they’ll see, but it’s from here that you can get to anywhere else and start exploring some of the culturally interesting parts of the region.

Hong Kong is made up of 5 main islands: Hong Kong Island, Kowloon, the New Territories, Lantau and assorted minor ones. The Star Ferry terminal will take you to these.
But today we’ll take a trip out to Stanley Village on the South Eastern edge of Hong Kong Island for a pleasant stroll around, with temples, restaurants and a small beach among the highlights.

Repulse Bay
On the way to Stanley we will pass the crescent shaped Repulse Bay with some of the most beautiful beaches in the Territories and an unusual lifeguard clubhouse featuring swirling dragons.

Here we are.

Stanley is a former fishing port but today is a popular tourist destination with restaurants, bars, a market and a museum. Upon arrival you'll find yourself in the Main Street close to the Stanley Bay. Walk along the promenade and you’ll find a host of bars and restaurants where you can sit outside and enjoy the picturesque scenery of the bay. For a more interesting place to sit and eat you could do worse than head to the beautiful 160 year old colonial Murray House where you can also visit the Hong Kong Maritime Museum.

Arriving at Stanley the first thing you’ll find is the market where inside, the stalls are crammed close together, and are themselves crammed with all sorts of bric-a-brac: paintings, clothes, Chinese ornaments, toys and so on.

Come outside and you’ll find essential gear for an outdoor adventure: shoes and boots, raingear (and down jackets), some camping equipment.

Stanley Market
So next time when you travel Hong Kong, take a trip out to Stanley Village to see a different side to Hong Kong.

Getting To Stanley Village by Bus

You can take bus 6, 6X, 6A, 66, 260 which all pick from Queensway in front of Admiralty MTR station.
The 6X is an express departure, while the 6A only runs during morning and evening peak hours.
Prices range from HK$7.90 – HK$10.60 one-way.
Buses stop at the Stanley Bus Terminus near the Stanley Police Station, from where Stanley market and promenade are a short walk

Annie Tradeshows are great at getting products out there to public, large numbers of journalists, retailers, consumers and sundry others gather in one central location for a few days of expense account lunches, cheap hotel rooms, promotional stress balls and assorted printed paraphernalia.

But is there a better way to get your message across, without spending  the 100’s of thousands of dollars needed to build the booth, print flyers, put staff up in hotels, entertain the media and the million and one other things that need to be done?

In this world of global electronic communication do companies need to attend these events to get their message across?

That was the question that Mio asked themselves. Could they garner the same interest from an online exhibition that they could from being at CeBit? Well the results are in and with nearly 10,000 visitors to the Mio Virtual Roadshow it is being heralded as a success.  In these, less than stellar economic times Mio have managed to save money and resources by going online and hosting a virtual product booth.

The show gave the audience everything they’d expect from a tradeshow: new products, a press conference with a Q&A session, company information and a lot more but without the expense account lunches, cheap hotel rooms, promotional stress balls and assorted printed paraphernalia.Mio virtual Roadshow

So will the experiment be repeated? The indication is yes.  The IFA consumer electronics show is coming in September so watch this space and this space for more exciting products over the coming months.
