An opportunity to meet with hundreds of retailers and potential channel partners brought Mio to St. Petersburg, Russia June 21 to take part in the DISTREE IT Channel Forum. The event is the largest of its kind in the Russia/CIS region, an important IT market that has rebounded since the 2009 economic downturn. Mio representatives held 30 productive one-on-one meetings and participated in a “60 seconds to convince” format event in which the MiVue 128 was presented as a safety solution not just for automobiles, but for bicycles and motorcycles, as well. The event also afforded Mio regional media exposure, including a pair of interviews with company director Steven Chang.

In 2011 Mio, an industry leader in satellite navigation and a top brand in Taiwan, built on its success by introducing the new theme: "Mio Finds the Fun.” On a Friday afternoon in early summer, representatives from several major media outlets were invited to experience firsthand the latest Mio software developments that are bringing fun back to life and navigation!
Phase one: Guests get things rolling with a hands-on Mio satnav experience
On a clear summer afternoon, consumer media representatives invited by Mio 3C gathered at Dongtien French Restaurant on Yangming Mountain, Taipei. Prior to arriving, each got first-hand experience driving a car loaded with new Mio satnav devices and learned what it is that sets Mio apart from the other navigation device manufacturers.
Phase two: Friendly competition inspires lively participation
A little friendly competition is an essential part of any camp experience, especially when it comes to creating group interest. Before moving from the gathering point to the camp destination, participants were divided into four groups. Prior to departing for their final goal, each group drew a task to perform along the way. Challenges included finding a location, buying items, or taking site-specific photographs. To successfully complete their tasks, participants had to use Mio satnav devices running the latest generation of navigation software.
Phase three: Sharing the advantages of next-generation of navigation software
The final phase of activities included a presentation by Mio’s product manager, who detailed the latest developments in Mio navigation devices and the MiVue drive recorder. The presentation was sprinkled with humorous and fun commentary, adding a festive atmosphere to the event, while fostering a deeper understanding of Mio's unique charm.
Reporters and media professionals left Camp Mio Taiwan 2011 with pleasurable memories and a better appreciation of how “ Mio Finds the Fun.”
Italian tech periodical PC Professionale recently tested an array of PNDs featuring European maps in the under €150 price range and Mio emerged with top honors. Published in the June 2011 issue, the side-by-side comparison focused on products that are affordably priced while delivering a competitive set of features for an entry-level navigation device.
The test pitted the Mio Spirit 685 against satnav models from competing manufacturers Becker, Garmin, Navigon, Prestigio, Tele System and TomTom.
The devices were ranked in several categories, including usability, functionality, convenience and performance. Among the products tested, Mio Spirit 685 came out on top with a total score of 8/10, winning the publication’s Gold VIP Award. The Mio model ranked highest for usability (7.5), functionality (8.5) and performance (7.5).
On completion of the test, the editors of PC Professionale described Mio Spirit 685 as a higher-end product offered at an extremely competitive price. The user interface should be the envy of more famous competitors such as Garmin and TomTom, while features like IQRoutes and Infoblu TMC are typical of much more expensive devices.
