Mio has been expanding its brand in Russia under the theme “Extend Your Potential,” and the company got things rolling September 8 with gala press event in the Moscow suburb of Ilinskoe. Members of the Russian media, representatives from TAITRA Russia, as well as the Mio’s country manager and personnel from the company’s Russian map partner Navitel were all on hand for a promotion that allowed participants to get down and dirty with the latest Mio products.
The focus of the event was the launch of two new devices in Russia: the Mio Cruiser personal navigation device and the Mio MiVue line of drive recorders. After a light brunch, the press conference kicked off with an address by Jack Cheng of the Taiwan Trade Organization. Cheng spoke on the importance of the Russian market to Taiwanese companies like Mio, drawing a comparison between Taiwan’s IT market and Russia’s burgeoning oil and natural gas industry.
Michelle Huang, sales director for ROE region, and Tatyana Arutyunova, sales and marketing company representative for Russia and CIS, introduced Mio’s latest line of navigation and drive recording devices while addressing current trends in the global GPS car navigation market.
The fun really got rolling after lunch as guests and hosts convened at the nearby off-road test track. There they found a fleet of state-of-art Land Rover off-road vehicles fitted out with Mio Cruiser and Mio MiVue navigation and drive recording devices. The test track was a marvel in itself—a challenging maze of dirt roadways dotted with sand traps, water pits and steep inclines.
Guests competed by using their satnavs and drive recorders to navigate through the hazards and eventually make their way to a “treasure” prize waiting at the end of their brief journey. Those that chose not to face the course still had plenty of fun at their disposal, including a fishing pond stocked with fish!
The day concluded with a gala dinner featuring live music and an awards ceremony. Local media responded with favorable coverage. Alexander Tychinin of the Cars Guru Web site made the best of his time on the course, documenting his adventures in the Land Rover for readers. The representative of the GPS Club Web site summed up the day’s activities best, saying the event would “long live in the memory of every participant.”
